School-To-Careers Initiative

The School-to-Careers Initiative is a partnership between the state's largest school district, (Jefferson County Public Schools), the business community, and community organizations, to introduce middle and high school students to a variety of career options. By combining classroom experience with training in the workplace, students sharpen their employment skills in the work environment. The goal of the program is to help students make appropriate education decisions and build a strong workforce in Jefferson County.

The following are special programs and projects conducted through the School-To-Career initiative:

FutureLinks - A web site and e-mail system to connect businesses and community volunteers to the classroom
Links for Learning - A professional development option for educators to explore the community and use their experiences to bring relevancy to the classroom
StandardLinks - Online curriculum guide for developing lessons that integrate workplace competencies and district standards
Young AmeriTowne and International Towne - Economic situations and activities to help elementary and middle school children explore careers through real-world situations and experience
