As one of the population centers of the state, Jefferson County has an expansive network of infrastructure for transportation and utility needs.

All modes of transportation except water–air, trucking, rail, mass transit and highways– are available in Jefferson County, providing access to all major markets across the nation and even around the world.

Highways

 
 

Jefferson County has over 450 miles of roadways and is the "Gateway to the Rocky Mountains." I-70 crosses through the heart of the County, providing local access west to the ski slopes and other recreational areas and mountain communities. U.S. 6 and U.S. 285 also provide access east and west. Colorado Highways 93 and C-470 provide access north and south.

Trucking
There are 782 truck transportation companies in the metro Denver area providing trucking services. 143 of these companies are located in Jefferson County.

Public Transportation
Bus Service - Local bus service is provided by the Regional Transportation District (RTD). Click here for route information or call 303-299-6000. There are also seven inter-city commercial bus companies in the Denver metro area.

Countywide Transportation Plan

A 20-year County-wide Transportation Plan was adopted in 1998 to address present and future transportation needs in the County. The following statement was used as a framework for the project: "The Jefferson County Transportation Plan will be a unified multi-modal transportation plan which will provide for the efficient, cost-effective movement of people and goods, while protecting and enhancing the quality of life in Jefferson County."

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport

Situated perfectly between Denver and Boulder on U.S. 36, Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (RMMA), is the closest airport to both downtown Denver and Boulder. Classified as a general aviation reliever airport, RMMA relieves general aviation traffic from Denver International airport, a popular feature for businesses that take advantage of the fact that the airport is just 20 minutes from downtown Denver. RMMA is the fourth busiest airport in Colorado.

Denver International Airport (DIA)

DIA offers non-stop access to over 100 cities world-wide. This $4.2 billion facility has 53 square miles with five runways, three concourses, 94 gates, and 57 commuter positions. DIA is the fifth busiest airport in the nation and tenth in the world. In July 2002, Time Magazine named DIA the nation's best run airport. The Wall Street Journal rated DIA one of the five best airports in the country, citing the airport's great design and numerous amenities. In addition, JD Power and Associates ranked DIA second among large airports for customer satisfaction, Consumer Reports magazine rated DIA highly in nearly all of its categories.

Air Cargo
There are 63 air freight service providers in the Denver Metro Area.


Rail

 
 
Rail service is available throughout the Metro Denver area for both passengers and freight. Amtrak's station is located in lower downtown Denver and provides passenger travel to other states and recreational travel to local ski slopes and mountain communities.

Light rail transit into Denver's Central Business District is running and expanding from the southern suburbs. Future Light Rail projects in the County include lines running from Lakewood and Arvada to downtown Denver.

Freight can be moved via rail from lines located in the northern and central part of the Jefferson County, connecting with a total of 3,281 miles of Class 1 railroad tracks maintained throughout the state. One of the County's most recognizable companies transporting its products on rail lines is Coors Brewing Company located in Golden.

Water and Sewer Services

 
 
Most of Jefferson County’s water is supplied from a network of reservoirs on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. These reservoirs are supplied by run-off from snow melt. The Denver Water Board is responsible for ensuring a continuous supply of water to the City and County of Denver and nearly 50 percent of Denver Water customers who live in the surrounding suburbs (water service contracts).

Water and sewage treatment is provided by 46 local water and sanitation districts or municipalities within Jefferson County. The schedule of fees, charges, rates, capital improvement charges, tap fees, and any other charges vary from district to district. Telecommunications

 
 

The metro Denver area is recognized nationally for having an active telecommunications market. Several national and regional headquarter operations have spured growth of this industry in Colorado.

Cable providers vary from city to city. Jefferson County is primarily serviced by Comcast, 303-930-2000. Comcast provides both cable television and broadband internet access services.
