Jefferson County Industry Awards Breakfast

Arvada, Colo. – The Jefferson Economic Council (JEC) honored leading businesses in Jeffco that experienced significant growth in 2006. “Upping the Tempo: An Ensemble of Industry Bandleaders in Jefferson County” was the theme of this year’s event, as nearly 300 attendees gathered at the 14th annual Industry Appreciation Awards Event the morning of March 22, 2007, at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities.

The event drew attendance and sponsorship from the business, education, and government communities who recognize the importance of capital investment and new jobs to the Jefferson County economy.

“As we try to encourage job growth and capital investment in Jefferson County, it is important for us to recognize the businesses and individuals who have made significant contributions in these areas over the past year. In Jeffco, we are fortunate to have a healthy mix of proven businesses and innovative small businesses. They deserve this recognition,” said Preston Gibson, President and CEO of Jefferson Economic Council.

The event’s top award was the Pioneer Award, which was given to the CoorsTek for its leadership, vision, and its role in increasing primary jobs in Jefferson County. The award for the Economic Developer of the Year honored former Department of Energy Golden Field Office Manager John Kersten for his leadership over his 38-year career. Other awards were the Innovative Technology Award (given to MicroSat Systems, Inc.), Business Recognition Awards (recipients included Pilatus Business Aircraft, Ltd., Stephany’s Chocolates, Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc., Octagon Systems, The Duck Company, and Trimble Navigation), Chairman’s Choice Award (Red Rocks Community College) and the Jefferson County Workforce Development Partnership for Business Award, (awarded to Jefferson County Career & Technical Education). A new award, the, was given to the Rocky Mountain Asphalt Education Center for implementing a workforce training program for at-risk teens.

JEC’s 2007 Board Chairman, Jeff Keller from Asphalt Paving Co., and JEC investor, Esther Kettering from Fuller Real Estate were the emcees for this year’s event.
