the U.S. In response, Jefferson Economic Council, (JEC) works
with organizations throughout Jefferson County and the metro
area to develop programs and services that support the workforce
development needs of companies in the County. |

offer comprehensive workforce training assistance to businesses.
Services such as technology training, leadership/management
skills, and essential skills are customized to meet the changing
training needs of companies and their employees. |

The Jefferson County
Workforce Center provides integrated workforce programs
and services to meet employee/employer workforce development
needs in the counties of Jefferson, Clear Creek, and Gilpin.
The center provides the following employer-focused services:
- Customized recruitment, screening, and referral of qualified
employees
- Local and state labor market, community, and financial
resources information
- Local, state, and national Internet recruitment capabilities
- Database of qualified applicants in professional and
technical occupations
- Rapid response program to facilitate recruitment, training,
or job placement
needs
- Customized services for employers transitioning employees
outside of their company
The center provides the following employee-focused services:
- Job placement services including career counseling and
guidance, resume assistance, and job matching services
- Comprehensive skills assessments
- Job skill training
- Support services

Tri-County
Workforce Board |

| Members of the Tri-County
Workforce Board are appointed by the Jefferson, Gilpin
and Clear Creek Boards of County Commissioners, and partner
with the county commissioners in setting policy and monitoring
program quality and success. In addition, the Board identifies
regional workforce development needs and creates comprehensive
strategies for meeting these needs, taking into account the
region's economic development priorities. The majority of
the Workforce Board members are high-level employers and owners
of large and small businesses located in the Tri-County region. |

School-To-Careers
Initiative |

The School-to-Careers
Initiative is a partnership between the state's
largest school district, (Jefferson County Public Schools),
the business community, and community organizations, to
introduce middle and high school students to a variety of
career options. By combining classroom experience with training
in the workplace, students sharpen their employment skills
in the work environment. The goal of the program is to help
students make appropriate education decisions and build
a strong workforce in Jefferson County.
The following are special programs and projects conducted
through the School-To-Career initiative:

- A web site and e-mail system to connect businesses
and community volunteers to the classroom
- Links
for Learning - A professional development option
for educators to explore the community and use their experiences
to bring relevancy to the classroom
- StandardLinks
- Online curriculum guide for developing lessons that
integrate workplace competencies and district standards
- Young
AmeriTowne and International Towne - Economic
situations and activities to help elementary and middle
school children explore careers through real-world situations
and experience

Colorado
FIRST/Existing Industries Customized Training |

| Both programs are administered
jointly by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and
International Trade (OED) and the Colorado Community College
and Occupational Education System. For more information
about these programs, call OED at 303-892-3840.
The Colorado FIRST Customized Training Program
helps primary industry employers with short-term, fast-track
training.
- Incentive Program - Designed for companies that are
relocating to Colorado or are undertaking a major expansion.
Grants are usually funded based on the number and quality
of jobs created, and are administered by the community
colleges.
- Small Company Grants - Companies with 25 or fewer employees
are eligible to apply for training funds that can be used
at approved community college training classes.
- Competitive Grants - Companies adding a significant
number of new full-time jobs to their workforce may apply
for Colorado FIRST funds by creating a training plan and
completing an application with their local community college.
The Existing Industry Program was created to maintain
the competitiveness of the existing industrial base and
provide job security for Colorado workers.
- Existing Industry Grants - This program is designed
for Colorado companies that are implementing new technology
to remain competitive and retain jobs in Colorado.
