Mountain Communities
Jefferson County's mountain communities offer thousands of County residents an unparalleled quality of life. Mountain communities include Evergreen, Morrison, Conifer, Aspen Park, Kittredge, and Bergen Park. Evergreen Evergreen and the associated communities that make up the Evergreen area are cradled in the Rocky Mountains at about 7,500 feet elevation and just 30 miles west of Denver. Evergreen is unincorporated, with a population of over 40,000 people. The area offers a unique mountain lifestyle with a variety of recreation opportunities, but is supported by the necessary amenities and services of a thriving business community. Evergreen encompasses about 130 square miles of pine-and aspen-laden hills. It sprawls the 14,260-foot Mount Evans on the west, to the edge of the high plains on the east, from its sister community of Conifer on the south to the residential communities of Genesee and Lookout Mountain on the north. Famous for its natural, acoustically perfect Red Rocks Amphitheater, visitors come for its restaurants, outdoor recreation, and rock concerts. Bandimere Speedway is another of Morrison's nationally known attractions. Home of the NHRA/Winston Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals, the large, multi-use speedway also features NHRA Championship Drag Racing. The Morrison community is also a place where dinosaurs once roamed. Visitors can literally walk in the footsteps of the huge beasts by visiting Dinosaur Ridge, a world- renowned palentolocial outdoor museum. With a population of 407 people, the incorporated community of Morrison remains surprisingly small, despite its close proximity to the Denver metropolitan area.
